Formålet med denne undersøgelse er at belyse danske præsters udsagn om samfundsordenen og statsmagten i deres prædikener i perioden 1750-1848. Der tænkes på udsagn om overgangen fra et enevældigt, decentralt og patriarkalsk-organiseret samfund til en centralt forvaltet styreform med udstrakte friheder for borgerne indbyrdes og i forholdet til staten, og der tænkes på forhold som opfattelsen af statsmagtens ændrede formål, organisation og virkefelt gennem perioden, ændringer i opfattelsen af forholdet mellem individ og statsmagt og mellem de forskellige samfundsmedlemmer indbyrdes.

The purpose of this survey is to map out clerical views on social order and government in Denmark between 1750 and 1848 as expressed in printed sermons. Included are views expressed on the transition from an absolute, decentralized and patriarchally-organized society to a centralized form of government with extensive freedom for the citizens among themselves and in relation to the government, and also views on conditions such as the conception of the changed purpose, organization and sphere of activities of government during the period, changes in the conception of the relation between the individual and government and between the various members of society. # # As regards social order the following issues are examined: #1) patriarchy #2) social classes #3) the concept of a citizen #4) human rights # # As regards government the following issues are examined: #1) theocracy or social contract #2) static or dynamic authorities #3) struggles between Conservatism and Liberalism up till 1848 #4) absolutis
