Abstract

Danish Gallup Omnibus Data, 1976 comprises 20 omnibus surveys carried out by the Danish Gallup Institute in 1976. (Numbering goes to no. 21, however, but omnibus no. 16 has not been handed over to the DDA). # #Each of the 20 omnibuses consists of a number of recurring questions as well as a number of special questions (concerning topical events). The present survey is a year file based on all the 1976 omnibuses. # #The questions common to all 1976 omnibuses are: the respondent's sex, age and marital status; size of the household and number of adults (persons aged 15 or more) and children (persons under 15), and age of the children; household composition; the respondent's status in the household; the respondent's education, occupational status, private or public employment and income; education, occupational status and private or public employment of the head of the household; household income; occupational status of the housewife; type and ownership of the dwelling; geographical location of dwelling and degree of urbanization; reading habits as regards newspapers, weeklies and monthlies; whether the respondent listened to the Radio News or watched the TV News on the day before the interview; cinema visits; means of transport used by the respondent on the day before the interview; which party the respondent voted for at the last general election (in 1975); and which party the respondent would vote for at a hypothetical general election on the day after the interview. # #The special questions deal with such issues as: # #Omnibus no. 01 (DDA-0464): #Use of seat belts in cars; attitude to the new legislation on compulsory use of seat belts; knowledge of and attitude to the new speed limits; and frequency of driving. # #Omnibus no. 02 (DDA-0465): #Knowledge of and attitude to Christiania; attitude to nuclear power stations in Denmark; and voting intention at a hypothetical referendum on nuclear power. # #Omnibus no. 03 (DDA-0466): #No special questions. # #Omnibus no. 04 (DDA-0467): #Attitude to the birth-place criterion as applied in Greenland; voting intention at a hypothetical referendum on Danish membership of the EC; attitude to an expansion of the political co-operation within the EC; and knowledge of and attitude to the fisheries dispute between Iceland and Great Britain. # #Omnibus no. 05 (DDA-0468): #Knowledge of and attitude to the new Primary School Act and the views on a comprehensive school versus streaming; whether the household has received a brochure on the new Primary School Act; whether the respondent has children in the 1st to the 7th grade; and knowledge of and attitude to Erhard Jakobsen's criticism of Radio Denmark's radio and TV-programmes. # #Omnibus no. 06 (DDA-0469): #Attitude to abolishing the deferential form of address 'De'; attitude to a number of questions concerning nuclear power; and telephone in the household. # #Omnibus no. 07 (DDA-0470): #No special questions. # #Omnibus no. 08 (DDA-0471): #Assessment of the rate of unemployment in the next six months; ways of reducing unemployment (wage freeze, reduction of working hours, early retirement, public job creation schemes); unemployed persons in the household; and knowledge of and attitude to a number of questions concerning Roskilde University Centre (RUC). # #Omnibus no. 09 (DDA-0472): #Attitude to nuclear power stations in Denmark; voting intention at a hypothetical referendum on nuclear power; assessment of the Government's performance; and colour TV in the household. # #Omnibus no. 10 (DDA-0473): #Attitudes to NATO; summer holiday plans; holiday destination preferred; and attitudes to Denmark's new national defence system and Denmark's national defence in general. # #Omnibus no. 11 (DDA-0474): #Attitude to nuclear power stations in Denmark; assessment of Denmark's economic situation; attitudes to an increase in various types of taxes in order to limit private consumption; taxes versus dues; attitude to a VAT increase; and attitude to solutions to the most important problems: unemployment, inflation, and the balance of payments deficit. # #Omnibus no. 12 (DDA-0475): #Knowledge of and attitude to the Social Democratic proposal concerning economic industrial democracy; attitude to a central fund; the consequences if only the employers pay to such a fund; whether the respondent prefers to own shares in an enterprise or have a share in a cental fund; membership of a trade union under LO (the Danish Trades Union Congress); attitude to the Government's proposal concerning compulsory profit-sharing, and whether the respondent prefers higher wages to profit-sharing; car at disposal; speeding tickets; frequency of driving; assessment of the TV transmissions from the Olympic Games in Montreal; causes of unemployment: too few jobs or too high unemployment benefit; and what the respondent prefers: that unemployment benefit is reduced or that the Labour Exchange is made more efficient. # #Omnibus no. 13 (DDA-0476): #No special questions. # #Omnibus no. 14 (DDA-0477): #Knowledge and assessment of the economic settlement, including whether the settlement was necessary, whether it is sufficient as regards a reduction of consumption and future wage increases, the incidence of burdens, and the possibilities of reducing the unemployment rate; the political participation in the settlement; and membership of a trade union under LO. # #Omnibus no. 15 (DDA-0478): #The information value of advertisements; whether advertising in the long run makes the goods more expensive or cheaper; factors which have influenced the respondent's philosophy of life (parents, school, the Church, friends, own experiences/life, spouse); and biblical subjects (the Creation, the acts of Jesus). # #Omnibus no. 17 (DDA-0479): #The television discussion between Prime Minister Anker Jørgensen and Mogens Glistrup, the leader of the Progress Party; assessment of this discussion; and attitudes to the views and arguments of Mogens Glistrup and Anker Jørgensen. # #Omnibus no. 18 ((DDA-0480): #No special questions. # #Omnibus no. 19 (DDA-0481): #Voting intention at a hypothetical general election with a three-party system (with a Socialist, a Social-Liberal, and a non-Socialist party) and attitudes to such a party system versus the present-day system; attitude to the large number of parties in the Danish Parliament, i.e. to keep the percentage rule; and assessment of which of the present parties could be described as a Social-Liberal party. # #Omnibus no. 20 (DDA-0482): #No special questions. # #Omnibus no. 21 (DDA-0483): #Participation in the referendum on Danish entry into the EC in 1972; vote at a hypothetical referendum on Danish entry today; attitude to an expansion of the political co-operation within the EC; higher wages versus unemployment; assessment of the Government's performance; membership of a trade union under LO; attitudes to illegal strikes; and expectations of 1977 as regards prices, unemployment, labour market unrest, Denmark's general economic situation and personal standards of living. # #Unless otherwise stated, the rest of this study description deals with the recurring questions only.
