Codebook: Variables, universes, concepts, survey design and frequency distribution
Danish Gallup Omnibus Data 1986 comprises 20 omnibus surveys carried out by the Danish Gallup Institute in 1986. # #Each survey contains a number of demographic variables common to all the surveys of that year, as well as a number of questions dealing with topical events. # #The questions common to all 1986 omnibuses are: #The respondent's sex, age and marital status; size of the household, number of adults (persons aged 15 or more) and children, and age of the children; the respondent's position in the household; the respondent's education, occupational status, public or private employment and income; education, occupational status and public or private employment of the head of the household; gross household income; the housewife's occupational status; housing conditions and ownership of the dwelling as well as geographical location and degree of urbanization; which party the respondent voted for at the last general election; and which party the respondent would vote for at a general election on the day after the interview. # #The special questions in this omnibus deal with the following issues: # #The summit meeting in Reykjavik on Iceland between US President Reagan and Soviet Secretary General Gorbachev dealing with detente and arms reductions; knowledge of the main reason why an agreement was not reached; who is to blame for the breakdown of the negotiations; knowledge of and attitude to the US SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative) project, i.e. the government plan for the use of special weapons to destroy enemy missiles in space (also called the star wars project); the impact of the SDI project on world peace and the risk of a confrontation between the two super powers; knowledge of and attitude to Gert Petersen (chairman of the Socialist People's Party) for a short period during World War II being a member of a nazi organization; attitude to the fact that Gert Petersen at first lied about his past; attitude to various humanitarian and social relief organizations; attitude to voluntary social relief work; the collection by the Danish Refugee Council; the most important purpose of the economic retrenchment (the so-called 'potato cure'); the effects of the retrenchment; a reduction of the balance of payments deficit versus a reduction of private consumption; and whether it is a reasonable way to cut down private consumption
